Smitty's Lawn and Landscape Provides the Following Additional Services
A lush, green lawn not only provides curb appeal, it preserves and increases your property’s value. The special services that Smitty’s offers are complementary to our core lawn care packages. Combining one or more of these services along with one of our packages will increase the success of your lawn’s health.
Aeration
Here in Fort Dodge, Iowa, our cool-season grasses are prone to lawn disease, pests, weeds, and a variety of lawn issues. Two of the most prevalent include soil compaction and excessive thatch. Both prevent air, water, and essential nutrients from getting to the roots of your grass. A process called core aeration helps reduce thatch while opening the way for air, water, and fertilizer to reach your turf’s root zone. This process will help your roots grow and stay strong.
Dethatching
Dethatching is the mechanical removal of thatch on the surface of your lawn. It allows air, water, and fertilizer to once again reach the root zone of your grass.
Lime Application
If your lawn is experiencing weak growth, is consistently overrun with disease, insect infestations, or weeds, it could be an imbalance of pH levels in your soil. Smitty’s lime application will increase the efficiency of nutrient uptake through your root system and enhance development.
Mulch Top-Dressing
Mulching landscape beds is a great way to add uniformity to your landscape. It also helps prevent weed growth, retain moisture and add organic matter and nutrients to the soil. At Smitty’s, we usually replenish mulch annually with a 1-1½” layer of fresh mulch. While 1-3″ is desirable, thick piles of mulch around trees and plantings can be detrimental to growth and should be avoided.
